BCC’s V4 Film Project Launches

An international film project entitled “The Art of Being Elderly: Documenting the Creative Life of Seniors in Mikulov” is being implemented under the coordination of the Budapest Cultural Center, with the support of the Visegrad Fund’s “V4 Gen Mini Grants” program.

The initiative brings together eighteen young filmmakers aged 18–30 from Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Alongside the Hungarian partner institution, the Czech Mikulovská kulturní and the Slovak Mestské kultúrne stredisko Štúrovo are also participating as project partners.

The one-week mobility program, taking place this year between June 1–7, aims to enable participants to create short films about the creative and active lives of members of a seniors’ club in the Moravian town of Mikulov. At the heart of the project is the idea of demonstrating that members of the older generation continue to play active, inspiring, and valuable roles in their communities through artistic activities. Young filmmakers from the three participating countries will produce films of no more than twenty minutes in the categories of documentary, fiction, and animation, involving the seniors themselves in the creative process.

The completed films will be screened at the cinema hall in Mikulov at the end of the program, and later presented in Štúrovo and Budapest as well. The long-term goal of the project is to strengthen international cooperation through the visual language of film and to build bridges across generations, cultures, and languages. In the spirit of sustainability, the organizers chose rail transport for participants’ travel. The working language of the project is English, and its implementation is made possible through the support of the Visegrad Fund, while the international cultural community of the European Network of Cultural Centers (ENCC) also played an important role during the preparation phase.
