Latvian Students Visiting the Budapest Cultural Center

Students from the Saules Skola Art School in Daugavpils, Latvia, participated as guests in the 32nd National/Carpathian Basin Student Film Festival, which this year was organized by the Csokonai Event House and the Polifilm Workshop Foundation, with the cooperation of the Budapest Cultural Center.

The students and their lead teacher spent two weeks in Budapest as part of an Erasmus+ mobility project organized by the 1CEBA Association. With their presence, the Latvian students helped to internationalize the Student Film Festival, and through their uniquely styled short films, they showcased how they saw the 2025 lineup of short films, the event participants, its organizers, the 15th district venues, and the Hungarian capital itself.

The 1CEBA Association offered a special award, which—based on the choice of the Latvian students—was awarded to "Friday Night Mercy" (Péntek esti irgalom) by Mici Varga and Milán Maruszki, for its humorous reinterpretation of a serious topic. The prize was presented by a representative of the awarding organization on behalf of the students.

The gift package and certificate of recognition from the Budapest Cultural Center were awarded to "Subjective Szombathely" (Szubjektív Szombathely) by Lili Kovács, for “the visual reinterpretation of the travel film genre.”

This year, the 32nd National/Carpathian Basin Student Film Festival was also supported by the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
