A Budapest Cultural Center Visit in Poland Again

Our Polish partner, the FILMFORUM Association, invited the BCC to Olszyn for the INTERFILMLAB 8.0 international film workshop, organized within the framework of the WAMA Film Festival.

The 11th WAMA Film Festival, held between 17-21 September 2024, showcased film screenings, concerts, lectures and several film workshops, one of which was INTERFILMLAB 8.0. Divided into mixed groups, the young participants worked out a film plan, which they presented in a pitch at the end of the week. The 20-29-year-old participants were previously selected by film festival organizers in each of the 4 partner countries: Poland, Georgia, Hungary and Ukraine. The Budapest Cultural Center's Our Culture (AMiK) Short Film Festival represented Hungary with 9 enthusiastic young participants and 2 BCC supervisors, cultural professionals Krisztián Bakó and Sándor Oláh.

After the workshop opening on 15 September, all participants took part in lectures during the week, where they received theoretical guidance and professional instructions. This strengthened their cooperation in a film crew, helped them gain inspiration, and provided them with clues as to how to write a script and draw a storyboard. In addition to theory, the young people got to know the formal, technical and content related requirements of a film pitch.

The INTERFILMLAB 8.0 workshop groups consisted of 4 mixed nationalities and were led by film specialists helping them with professional guidance. During the week, all team members worked together to develop the synopsis of a film idea, the external and internal characteristics of the main characters, their motivations, main filming locations, color scheme, genre, budget, shooting details and distribution possibilities. The film plan then was presented to a professional jury, at the end of which the jury members gave their evaluation. Cultural experts Krisztián Bakó and Sándor Oláh were also members of the jury. Additionally, Krisztián and Sándor represented the Budapest Cultural Center as speakers and as members of a panel discussion.

The Budapest Cultural Center happily accepted its partner's invitation again. Most importantly, however, it was the young Hungarian film makers who prove themselves excellently at the international workshops in Olsztyn. As a result, they now have more experience in how to supervise film plans and how to find the best financing opportunities to realize them.
